Worker at Tandoor breaks record, secures first position in BA exams
Muhammad Muhsen Ali, hailing from Hafizabad district, secured 688 marks.
LAHORE:
It was not a usual day for Muhammad Muhsen Ali, working at his brother’s Tandoor, when he secured the first position in BA 2012 examinations on Saturday breaking all previous records in Punjab.
Ali, a private student hailing from Hafizabad district, is the eldest son of labourer Nazeer Ahmed among eleven siblings and works at a Tandoor in Lahore. Ali, who says he sleeps for not more than four hours a day, secured 688 marks in total.
On receiving the good news, his parents also arrived in Lahore from Hafizabad to celebrate, who found it hard to believe how well their son had done in exams. Customers and co-workers at the Tandoor told Express News that Ali was a hard-working person.
Ali hopes to continue with his studies and pursue a major in English, but regrets that the government has failed to provide students with opportunities and financial assistance – one of the reasons he claims he appeared as a private candidate.
The Punjab University announced the result of BA/BSc annual examinations 2012 on Saturday. As many as 1,43,750 students appeared in the examinations out of which 57,284 candidates succeeded in the examination, leading to a pass percentage of 39.85% this year.
