Anger: Protest over suspension of work on road project

A large number of people protested over suspension of construction work on a road in Rawalakot district.

MIRPUR:

A large number of people protested over suspension of construction work on a road in Rawalakot district by the state-run Pearl Development Authority (PDA).

The protesters accused the government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir of wrecking the public welfare projects. They said that the Shujahabad Haari Gheil Road was almost complete, when PDA stopped funds to the construction company, suspending work on it.

“The authorities have not released the development funds assigned to the projects,” said a protester.

The protesters gave the authorities until August 25 to resume the construction work or they will launch “massive” street protests in the area. They urged the AJK government and the PDA to ensure the release of the required funds for the construction work on the abandoned road projects by the stipulated deadline. The rally later dispersed peacefully.

The PDA office could not be contacted for comments.
