Expelling the college principal

The students believe that the principal called in the police, who proceeded to baton-charge and injure the protestors.

BAHAWALPUR:
Medical students protested for a fourth consecutive day on Sunday and demanded that the principal of their college step down for allegedly trying to crush protests.

More than 20 students were hurt on Thursday when the police broke up a protest against rising college fees and persistent power cuts on the campus of Quaid-i-Azam Medical College.

The students believe that the principal called in the police, who proceeded to baton-charge and injure the protestors. “Police officials cannot thrash students inside the college without the principal’s permission,” said Javed, a protestor at Sunday’s demonstration.

The students were also unhappy with the appointment of the Bahawalpur Commissioner to investigate the incident, saying he was biased in favour of Shah.

They vowed to keep protesting until the principal was removed from his post

The police arrested 15 students for protesting in the college on Friday, having arrested 60 at the demonstration on Thursday. Students had surrounded the principal’s office to discuss the fees issue, but the police did not allow them inside.

The students reportedly reacted by throwing stones, one of which injured the district police officer. The police then retaliated, which resulted in a number of students and policemen being injured.
