Helping Hand: Corporations urged to increase role

Experts call upon the corporate sector to play its societal role.

ISLAMABAD: Experts on Monday called upon the corporate sector to play its societal role and address some of the main socio-economic issues contributing to conflicts such as poverty and unemployment. Speaking at the seminar organised by Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI), the experts opined that weak and non-existent government institutions are unable to effectively address the multifaceted conflicts in Pakistan. The seminar on `Peace through Profit: Peace-building through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in Pakistan’ was jointly organized by Responsible Businesses Initiative (RBI) and International Alert, London. Dr Vaqar Ahmed, Head, Economic Growth Unit, SDPI moderated the proceedings.
