Power supply restored to 60% of affected areas: KESC
Parts of Karachi city faced power outages soon after Iftar on August 4 as some KESC’s transmission lines tripped
KARACHI:
Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) stated that power supply to 60% of the areas that plunged into darkness last night, has been restored, Express News reported on Sunday.
A large part of the city faced power outages soon after Iftar on August 4 as some of the KESC’s transmission lines tripped.
Areas where electricity supply is restored include North Nazimabad, Orangi Town, North Karachi, Defence, Saddar, Landhi and West Wharf.
The company said that its officials are working for complete restoration and that all pumping stations are supplied with power.
On Saturday, two 220 KV lines and three 132 kV lines stopped working, causing problem at 20 of KESC’s 60 grid stations.
Power faults at such a scale have become rare in the past two years since privately-run KESC resorts to area-wise outages whenever there is a shortfall.
Experts, however, said the trips suggest that decades-old transmission system still needs improvement. Power was intermittently restored to some areas but the blackout persisted in large parts till the filing of this report.
