Substandard meat: 17 butchers arrested
Butchers have been arrested for selling substandard meat in 10 days.

As many as 15 butchers have been arrested for selling substandard meat in 10 days, said a statement released by the Livestock Department on Saturday. It said these raids were carried out by veterinary doctors who seized more than 700 kilogrammes meat from the shops of the suspects and got cases registered against them in police stations concerned. The meat was later wasted. In Bahawalpur, two butchers have been arrested in two incidents for selling substandard meat. The suspects were arrested by Baghdadul Jadid and Kotwali police, respectively. They were caught in raids carried out by District Officer (Livestock) Dr Yaqoob Anjum and Bahawalpur Slaughter House Superintendent Dr Muhammad Gulzar on Friday. The raiding teams also seized 40 kilogrammes substandard meat from the two butchers. The meat was later wasted. The livestock officer said butchers in the district had been warned against sale of substandard and uncertified meat.
