Fans and friends flock to Fawad’s store Silk

Fawad and Sadaf Khan launch new clothing line at PFDC Mall.

LAHORE:

The PFDC in Mall One was thronged with actor Fawad Khan’s friends and fans Friday evening. His admirers huddled at the door of PFDC, clutching onto their notepads in the hope for an autograph, eager to catch a glimpse of their favourite actor – it was the birth of Fawad and his wife Sadaf’s new clothing line Silk.

Upon minimum probing, it is made clear that his wife calls the shots for the new venture, while Fawad merely mimics her vision. “We wanted to start spending more time together as a family,” said Fawad.

Like many others before her, Sadaf said she realised that the corporate world was not for her and that she had an aesthetic sense that could help women dress in a different manner. While the couple has nothing to do with the designing or the manufacturing of the products, they have their hands full on the production side.

“I worked for Levi’s and found that it isn’t hard to produce good fabric here if one is guided properly,” continues Sadaf, explaining that the brand has outsourced a design and manufacturing team but she is involved with the concept of the line.

Fawad has made a name for himself since the advent of hit TV drama “Humsafar” and his endorsement has helped promote his wife’s new project. It is inevitable that Fawad’s name will generate publicity for the clothing line because of his vast fan base.

The collection itself, however, is wearable; safe colour choices and floral designs make the collection pleasing and wearable. Whilst this season commands you to drape cotton products over your back and wear outfits that are loose, soft and light, silk can pose as an unhelpful choice of fabric.

“It is the fabric of celebration and looks nice even during the summer,” said Sadaf. “You don’t have to only wear cotton. Silks can go perfectly well with the season.” If you ladies can manage to stay clear of sweat patches under the arms, be sure to pick up a shirt or a tunic from Silk by Fawad Khan.

Priced between Rs8,000 to Rs12,000, pieces from the collection can be worn to work, to a casual tea party or a more formal Eid dinner. Polka dots paired with some fun colour combinations cut into kaftan style poncho tunics can look trendy and fun over leggings.

To stay in line with the sparkle of Eid, Sadaf added some traditional desi bling to the outfits by using embellishments to give the more down-to-earth yet fun prints a little taste of semi-formal dressing.
