GHALLANAI: 16 Mortar shells fired from Afghanistan landed into Pakistani territory near the Olay Check-post in Baizai sub-division of Mohmand Agency.

An official of the security forces said that the shells were fired from Nazar Khel area of Nangarhar province of Afghanistan which hit the Olay area however, no human losses was reported. The official added that Pakistani security forces retaliated by firing in the general direction from where the mortars had originated.

The official explained that around 50 personnel were guarding the check-post at the time of shelling, “all the personnel are safe and have the spirit to retaliate against any attack” he added.

On Thursday night, three missiles fired from Afghanistan hit Upper Dir but no casualties were reported.

For the last few months several cross-border shelling and rockets attacks have been witnessed especially in the tribal areas and the Dir districts. Pakistani authorities have repeatedly told the Afghan government to curb the cross border attacks and act against those militant factions who are targeting civilians and security forces from the other side of the Durand line. The government of Afghanistan denies their presence, rather than take action against them.
