Employment issue: SHC gives last chance to PTV managing director

KARACHI: A division bench of Sindh High Court gave a last opportunity to the managing director the Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV) to decide the issue of appointment of a daughter of a deceased PTV employee who was ignored and instead relatives of in-service employees were inducted.

The bench, comprising Justice Munib Akhtar and Justice Aftab Ahmed Gorar, earlier heard Sahiba Wazeer, widow of Wazeer Khan, marketing officer at Karachi station, who served the organisation for 25 year before falling terminally ill.

The petitioner maintained that she applied for induction of her daughter, Sobia Wazeer, in the department where her late father worked, against an existing vacancy.

The name of Sobia was on top of the list of people to be inducted against son/ daughter quota for deceased employees as per letter by PTV authorities but a day later another letter was sent from Karachi containing two other names of relatives of in-service employees.

The petitioner maintained that her daughter was eligible for the vacant post and deserved to be appointed but instead her right was usurped.

The bench expressed displeasure when the PTV counsel sought more time and adjourning proceedings till August 10.
