Dual nationality: LHC suspends PML-N MPA Rana Asif
He had admitted before the court that he possessed a Canadian passport.
LAHORE:
The Lahore High Court (LHC), while hearing the dual nationality cases, suspended the provincial assembly membership of Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) minority MPA Rana Asif Mahmood, Express News reported on Friday.
Earlier, LHC Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial had sought a written reply from Rana Asif on a writ petition seeking his disqualification for having dual nationality.
The MPA had admitted before the court that he possessed a Canadian passport as he is a Canadian national but argued that he was not a Canadian citizen. The court directed him to file his written reply on the issue.
At a previous hearing, the chief justice had noted that since the Supreme Court had already suspended the membership of several parliamentarians for holding dual nationalities, the matter needed to be decided quickly.
