Scholarships: South Asian students to pursue higher studies in social sciences
Grants were awarded by SDPI and International Development Research Centre Canada to students
Students from Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Sri Lanka were awarded scholarships to pursue higher studies in non-traditional disciplines on Wednesday.
The grants were awarded by Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) and International Development Research Centre Canada to students for pursuing Masters, MPhil and PhD degrees in social sciences, said to a press release.
Fellowships in the fields of governance, security and justice in various universities across South Asia were awarded by a screening committee.
The second round of fellowships will be awarded in December this year.
SDPI Head Economic Growth Unit Dr Vaqar Ahmed said the initiative will help promote research on under-researched social issues and particularly non-traditional security issues in South Asia.
“The fellowship programme has multi-faceted objectives such as the promotion of intra-regional peace and harmony.” These scholars would serve as ambassadors of peace in their respected countries, he added.
Dr Vaqar said the selected students will be provided short-term intensive training courses in research design, academic writing, field research and dissemination through advocacy and outreach.
