Development project: Work on flyover at 6th Road to begin this month
BB Road to be signal-free from Liaquat Bagh to Faizabad.

Utility service providers have been directed to relocate their services from the 6th Road intersection on Benazir Bhutto Road to make way for construction of a flyover.
This was decided in a meeting on Monday held at the commissioner’s office, which was attended Punjab Highways Superintendent Engineer (SE) Farhat Munir, Development Director Noreen Bashir, and representatives of Iesco, SNGPL and PTCL.
SE Munir told The Express Tribune that the project, which will be initiated towards the end of August, will cost an estimated Rs1,042 billion.
The highways official said the project had been forwarded to the planning and development department after it was approved by the chief minister.
The 400-metre flyover will consist of two three-lane bridges. After the completion of the flyover, the crossing at Rahmanabad Chowk will be closed and commuters taking a turn will have to use the 6th Road crossing.
Benazir Bhutto Road (formerly Murree Road) will be signal-free from Liaquat Bagh to Faizabad once the flyover is completed. The flyover at Chandni Chowk was opened to traffic this year.
The highways official said the other end of the flyover will be constructed on Peshawar Road at Pirwadhai Mor for commuters coming to Rawalpindi from Peshawar.
An underpass will be constructed for commuters travelling from Saddar and taking a turn towards IJ Principal Road.
The tentative cost of the project is Rs1,650 million, Munir said.
The project, which is still on the drawing board, has already been included in the annual development programme.
