LAHORE:
The Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) member states will hold its next meeting in Pakistan in October or November which comes after a gap of 10 years, said Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) President Zafar Iqbal Chaudhry.

Chaudhry, who is in Jeddah in connection with an OIC meeting, said that the decision was taken by the OIC member states in a meeting at the OIC headquarters in Jeddah on Saturday.

“This is a big success for Pakistan as the meeting is going to be held after a period of 10 years,” he added.

According to the LCCI president, OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu urged member states and the international community at large to extend maximum cooperation to flood-affected people of Pakistan. He said it was high time to initiate collective efforts to address any such future calamities.

Participants of the meeting called on the OIC to consider establishing an emergency fund to address natural disasters which might affect individual member states in the future.

For long-term assistance, they asked the OIC General Secretariat to initiate a programme for the children affected by the floods and requested member states and institutions to contribute generously.

They also urged the secretariat to thoroughly coordinate relief activities in Pakistan with member states and organise a meeting of Islamic philanthropic and humanitarian organisations on the situation in Pakistan.
