Enforced disappearances: Committee to meet on Tuesday

The government wants to enact a law, primarily to clip the powers of secret agencies.

ISLAMABAD:
A special parliamentary committee, which has been tasked to probe into the issue of enforced disappearances, will hold its maiden session on Tuesday. The committee comprises members from almost all political parties and is expected to submit a report to both the Senate and the National Assembly. A Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS) has already been formed. It is tasked to probe the issue of missing persons and is in the middle of preparing recommendations for the government to follow. The government wants to enact a law, primarily to clip the powers of secret agencies, including ISI, which have been blamed for most of enforced disappearances.
