Personal enmities: MQM, PPP activists among 11 killed

A total of 11 people were killed on Sunday, including two workers each of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).


Safdar Baloch, 36, was shot dead outside Bab-e-Iqbal Apartments near Nagan Chowrangi, according to the New Karachi police. Baloch was a PPP activist and was associated with Gulshan-e-Ghazi, Baldia office. He was in the real-estate business and the police suspect he was killed over personal enmity. His funeral prayers were offered at Gulshan-e-Ghazi.

In Liaquatabad, 32-year-old Khurram, was shot dead near Gol Market in Nazimabad. The police said that he was affiliated with  the MQM and was also the former security supervisor of Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Khurram was on his way somewhere when two motorcyclists opened fire at him. His body was taken to Abbasi Shaheed.

Muzammil, 40, a men’s tailor, was gunned down when two motorcyclists opened fire at him when he was sitting at his shop. Malir City DSP Rao Iqbal said that the victim had no personal enmity with anyone and was not affiliated with any political party.

DSP Iqbal said that two young men came to Muzammil’s shop earlier in the day and tried to force him to sew their clothes. They had threatened to kill him if he refused. He said that the same men might be responsible for shooting the tailor.

In Manghopir, 42-year-old Hayat Mehsud was shot dead near his home in Khairabad Colony. The police said that he was a labourer and was not a worker of any party. They suspected that he was killed over personal enmity. The body of a young man was also found at Furniture Market in the limits of Aram Bagh police station. The police said that the victim, who has yet to be identified, was kidnapped and then executed. The body was moved to Edhi morgue after the medico-legal formalities were completed at Civil hospital.

Alleged murderer killed

Separately, 45-year-old Shumail Khan was killed near New Sabzi Mandi. The Gadap police said that Khan used to work at the sabzi mandi and lived in Sohrab Goth. His body was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

While in Federal B Area, an alleged murderer, 45-year-old Rasheed Ahmed, a resident of Surjani Town, was gunned down by unidentified men, said the Yousuf Plaza police. They claimed that he was wanted by the authorities for killing his wife and sister.

Drug peddlers killed

A 30-year-old woman, identified as Haseena was shot dead, while her husband, Mirza Zahid, her brother-in-law and a guest were injured when three men opened fire inside their house in Khuda ki Basti, said the Surjani police. An investigation is being carried out, they added.

At night, a middle aged man, accompanied by his wife and a nephew, was gunned down inside their house in Korangi No.4. The victims were identified as fifty-five-year-old Shamsul Qamar, Rasheeda, 45 and the nephew as 22-year-old Zeeshan.

Awami Colony SHO Hatim Khan said that unidentified men entered their house and escaped after shooting the victims. He said that the victims used to peddle drugs.

Arrests

The Preedy police claimed to have arrested nine suspects, including alleged extortionists, on Sunday. The identities and political affiliations of the suspects were not disclosed.
