Road Safety: 11 more pedestrian bridges planned

The city administration wants to build more pedestrian bridges in Karachi to facilitate the commuters.
On Saturday, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed directed the officials concerned to expedite work on more pedestrian bridges.
He ordered the construction of roof tops on the bridges to make them attractive. He also called for holding designing competitions in future to involve the public in the process.
At the meeting, Muhammad Athar, senior director of KMC’s Transport and Communications Department, said that 11 bridges have been finalised for construction at different locations, including Rashid Minhas Road near Lal Flat, Gulistan-e-Jauhar near Darul Sehat Hospital, 5,000 Road near Cafe Today, near Masjid-e-Umar Farooq in North Karachi, at Korangi Road and two bridges at Shaheed-e-Millat Expressway.
The bridge at Jama Cloth Market, which was constructed in 1986, will be removed on the complaints of the residents and shopkeepers of the area.
