Zardari formally invites Manmohan Singh to Pakistan

President sends letter to Indian prime minister, says visit will help in maintaining peaceful, prosperous South Asia.

ISLAMABAD:
Taking a step further to improve bilateral relations between India and Pakistan, President Asif Ali Zardari on Friday formally invited Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to visit Pakistan.

Presidential spokesperson Senator Farhatullah Babar said that the invitation has been sent through a letter via Pakistan’s High Commission in New Delhi, the report said adding that the letter suggested Singh to visit his ancestral hometown on the birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak Sahib.


The letter said that the visit would not only be appreciated by the Pakistani nation, but will also reinforce the mutual desire of both the countries to promote inter-faith and inter-religious harmony, the report stated.

In the letter, the president said it was important to sustain the bilateral process and make it more result-oriented to maintain a peaceful and prosperous South Asia.

Indian Foreign Minister SM Krishna will also be visiting Pakistan in September as part of the ongoing secretary-level talks between the two nations.
