School education: Private school pupils dominate matric results

First position holders given laptops, Rs20,000 cash.

The Punjab Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education on Wednesday announced their results of matric examinations.


Girls outshone boys in the Bahawalpur board, students of private schools got most of the top positions in the Faisalabad board.

In DG Khan board, 66.26 per cent students passed the exams, while 67 per cent passed the Multan board exams. The pass percentage in Bahawalpur was 62.83.

Private schools outshine in Faisalabad

Most of the top positions in the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Faisalabad (BISE-F) board have been secured by students from private schools.

Controller of Examination Malik Zafar Iqbal said that 122,385 students sat the exams this year, of which 78,851 passed.

Rida Ayesha Rafiq of AW Grammar Girls High School scored 1,018 marks and came first. The second position has been shared by Muhammad Usama Ali of Faisalabad Grammar School for Boys (Koh-i-Noor Nagar branch) and Muhammad Umar of AW Grammar Boys High School with 1,015 marks each.

Amina Anwar of AW Girls Grammar High School and Mutahra Hasan of Government MC Girls High School (Ghulam Muhammadabad branch) came third at 1,012 marks each.

Among girls in science group, Rida Ayesha came first, followed by Amina Anwar and Mutahra Hasan. Ayesha Ashraf of the Divisional Public School’s girls section and Nihal Aamir of City Star Public High School (Peoples Colony) came third with 1,010 marks each.

Among boys, in the science group, Muhammad Usama Ali and Muhammad Umar came first, Muhammad Aamir Naveed of Chenab College, Jhang and Tayyab Hasan of City Star Public Boys High School (Peoples Colony) came second and third with 1,010 and 1,005 marks, respectively.

Among girls, in the humanities group, Urood Sajjad of Sheri Public Girls High School No 1 (Model Town) came first with 964 marks, Umme Sidra of Sheri Public Girls High School (Model Town) and Nawal Rehman Yousuf of Ghazali Public Girls High School, Jhang came second and third with 949 and 945 marks, respectively.

Among boy in the humanities group, Hafiq Tariq Aziz, a private student, came first with 938 marks, Muhammad Usman of Government Pakistan Model High School came second with 931 marks and Suleman Mansoor, private student, came third with 920 marks.


62.83% pass Bahawalpur board

As many as 58,876 students sat the exams in Bahawalpur board, of these 62.83 per cent passed.

The first position was shared by Maria Zaib of the Alpine Girls High School, Hasilpur, and Amna Shahid of the Muslim Public Girls High School, Hasilpur, at 1,017 marks, while Ujala Khalid of Government Girls City High School, Bahawalnagar and Muhammad Ahmed Latif of the Alpine Boys Secondary School of Sciences, Khanpur, shared the second position with 1,015 marks each. Maryam Hanif of Ummul Qura Girls Public School, Bahawalpur, came third with 1,013 marks. Among girls in the science group, Maria Zaib and Amna Shahid came first, while Muhammad Ahmed Latif topped the science group among boys with 1,015 marks.

Among girls in the general group, Sumera Maqbool of the Tameer-i-Nau Model High School, Hasilpur came first with 929 marks, while Abdul Aziz of Government Pilot Secondary School, Rahim Yar Khan topped among boys with 875 marks.

Daily wager tops DG Khan Board 

The top students at DG Khan board works as a daily wager.

Abdul Shakoor of Alipur Public Higher Secondary School, Muzaffargarh, came first with 1,020 marks.

He works as a daily wager for as much as Rs300 per day and said that despite working with his father, also a labourer, he made sure his studies were not compromised.

Abdul Shakoor was followed by Haseeb Ahmed from the same school who came second with 1,018 marks and Tayyaba Ajmal of Misaali Girls High School who came third with 1,016 marks.

As many as 51,068 students sat the exams in the DG Khan board, of which 34,327 passed.

As many as 108,979 students sat the matric Multan board exams, of which 73,514 passed. Ahmed Masood of Garrison Grammar School came first with 1,024 marks. Both Shoaib Haroon of Tabinda Model High School, Vehari, and Amjad Nazeer of Government High School Vehari came second with 1,019 marks. The third position went to Jawad Akhtar of Muslim Public Higher Secondary School with 1,016 marks.

Talking to The Express Tribune, Ahmed Masood said he wanted to be doctor. He said he was happy to beat his ‘biggest competitor’, his twin sister.  Shoaib Haroon’s teachers have, however, were dissatisfied with his second position, saying they will get his papers rechecked. They said they suspected discrimination against him.

Meanwhile, some people were arrested for selling the result CDs priced at Rs100 for Rs2,000.
