PPP seeks MQM’s support for ensuring national stability
Rehman Malik calls on Altaf Hussain, says both parties should work together to solve basic public problems.
As the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) steps up meetings with political parties of the country to ensure national stability, the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) called on their coalition partners to work together to reach the mutually desired goal.
Senior Advisor to Prime Minister on Interior Affairs Rehman Malik called on the MQM chief Altaf Hussain to discuss threats facing the country, internal and external challenges and the overall situation. Malik, on behalf of President Asif Ali Zardari, also lauded MQM’s effort to promote “brotherhood, peace and mutual understanding” in the country by interacting with other religious and political parties, a belated plaudit for the MQM supremo's recent statements calling for religious harmony.
Malik further told Hussain that the government, of which MQM is a part, would have to take more effective steps for controlling terrorism in Karachi besides ensuring internal stability, and assured that it was making every effort to check profiteering and loadshedding during Ramazan.
Hussain, in turn, congratulated Malik on being re-elected as a senator and expressed hope that he would utilise his abilities to curb terrorism and bring peace.
