LAHORE:
The Lahore Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) on Tuesday announced the names of the students standing first, second and third in the matric examinations.
The first position has been shared by Muhammad Sarmad Waqar Hashmi, a student at the Beachonhouse (Canal side campus) and Nashka Zulfiqar of Fauji Foundation Model High School for Girls, Nankana Sahib. They scored 1,021 of 1,050 marks. Arslan Tariq of the Government Central Model School came second with 1,020 marks, while Sadaf Sarfraz of Crescent Model High School came third with 1,019 marks. All these students belong to the science group.
Amongst boys in the humanities group the first and the second positions were earned by students of Allama Iqbal Public Boys High School, Kasur. With 978 marks Muhammad Aaqib Naseer came first and Hafiz Muhammad Usama came second with 966 marks. The third position, with 956 marks, was earned by Hafiz Adeel Ashraf, a private student from Kasur.
Among girls in the humanities group, Ayesha Aslam of the Government Model Girls High School, Okara, came first with 970 marks. She was followed by Aamina Siddique of Farooqi Girls High School with 964 marks and Arooj Nasir of City District Government Girls High School with 960 marks at second and third positions, respectively.
The names of the position holders were announced in a press conference held by BISE Chairman Mohammad Nasrullah Virk and Controller of Examinations Anwar Farooq.
The official results will be announced on Wednesday (today) at a ceremony to be presided over by Hamza Shahbaz Sharif at Alhamra Hall No 2 at 10am.
Farooq said 209,427 students sat the exams and 6,500 teachers, examiners and monitoring officers compiling the results. He said though he was confident about the accuracy of the results, but apologised for any errors during the compilation of the results. He said this was the first time for a while that there were not late results.
Virk said results were complied in a transparent manner. While unsealing the envelope that bore the names of the position holders, he said he had not known the results in advance.
The results will be available online by the time the ceremony begins on Wednesday (today), he said.
He said the results will also be made available through CDs, each costing Rs100. Only 100 hard copies of the results will be printed. These will be available two days after the official announcement of the results.
The results were also available on computers as well as manual backup. He said the results had been verified thrice and the results from the manual backup and the computerised system tallied. The students have the right to get their papers ‘rechecked’, he added.
Defending the BISE against allegations of inefficiency, Virk said he had held more than 80 inquiries since he took charge in March 2012. He said those who had violated the code conduct for the examinations had been punished.
