Five injured in Orangi Town grenade attack

KARACHI: Tension prevailed in Orangi Town on Tuesday after at least five people were injured when unknown men threw a hand grenade at a road side tea shop.

Law enforcement officials said that at least four men riding on two motorcycles hurled a hand grenade at tea shop in Faqir Colony, Orangi Town.

The attack, which took place within the remits of Mominabad police station, was the second such attack in a week. Unknown men had thrown a grenade at the Toori Bangash police post last Thursday. The blast only caused some damage to the post, but unlike Tuesday’s attack, did not cause any bodily harm to any person.

Following the incident, a heavy contingent of Rangers and police reached the site and cordoned off the entire locality.

The injured have been shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medical treatment.

District West Zone SSP Amir Farooqui said that a five-year-old boy was also among the injured. He added that the police was trying to ascertain the motive for the attack and uncover the identities of the perpetrators.

No case had been registered till the filing of this news story.

Target killings continue

Despite government claims of taking action against criminal elements, another person was shot dead near Garden’s shoe market.

Two bodies stuffed in gunny bags were also recovered.

Police, though were in action today, when they engaged three robbers in an encounter today. The alleged robbers where killed in the incident.
