FIA gets its 10th chief in current govt tenure

Virk hails from 9th Common Training Program; last served as additional IG Research and Development in Punjab.

Additional Inspector General of Police Punjab, Muhammad Anwar Virk, an officer of Police Service of Pakistan (PSP) of BPS-21 has been appointed as the new Director General (DG) Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).



Virk is the 10th DG of the FIA in the last four and a half years in the tenure of the current PPP-led coalition government. On average no DG of the FIA has lasted more than six months during the incumbent government’s term.

Virk hails from the 9th Common Training Program (CTP), last serving as an additional Inspector General Research and Development in Punjab and has superseded his senior Ch Tanveer who is currently serving as additional DG Immigration at the FIA headquarters in Islamabad.

Additional Inspector General of Police Muhammad Anwar Virk had also served as Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Lahore as well as Regional Police Officer (RPO) of Sheikhupura Region.
