Cricket: Kamran, Sami likely to get contracts

PCB to extend list by including Talha and Shah as well.

KARACHI:

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is all set to add Kamran Akmal and Mohammad Sami to the list of contracted players.

Leg-spinner Yasir Shah and fast-bowler Mohammad Talha are also likely to benefit from the board’s decision to add to the list. However, the fate of Abdul Razzaq, who was left out of the list of 42 players, is yet to be decided.

The PCB announced this year’s contract after a delay of almost six months but despite taking that long, the committee, led by Intikhab Alam, included a banned player while leaving out Sami from the list despite the fast-bowler featuring in all three Pakistan squads for the tour of Sri Lanka.

However, according to an official close to the committee, the new names have been finalised.

“The committee has decided to extend the list,” the official told The Express Tribune. “Apart from Sami, Kamran, Yasir and Talha have also been nominated. Kamran has got the selection committee’s go-ahead which has no issues with his inclusion in the list. But the committee is yet to finalise what category these will be put in. It will be finalised and announced after the chairman’s approval.”

Inclusion of Kamran Akmal in the list of players to be contracted to play for Pakistan is indeed welcome news. His inclusion will undoubtedly strengthen Pakistan's batting line.He is a capable aggressive batsman who has the capacity to male valuable contributions. He is also capable of opening the innings. It is true his wicket keeping is faltering but the others who were tried in his place could not come up to the required standard.Where batting is concerned they could not match Kamran Akmal. Therefore his inclusion as wicket keeper batsman in the list is appreciable.
