Power outages: Ulema threaten to protest
Pesco authorities cutting electricity supply from 12 to 15 hours, especially during Sehr and Iftar.
HARIPUR:
Ulema from different mosques in Haripur have threatened to stage a protest if the ongoing power outages persist. They held a meeting at a local mosque and criticised the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) authorities for the extended power outages lasting from 12 to 15 hours, especially during Sehr and Iftar.
The power outages have in turn caused water shortages, creating problems for people who come to pray at the mosques.
Despite warning Pesco of the issue time and again, nothing has been done so far, they lamented.
“Despite the fact that we have sacrificed the graves of our ancestors and fertile land and orchards for the Tarbela Dam and other hydropower projects, we are being rewarded with this unbearable loadshedding,” said a villager.
The ulema said that if the situation was not brought under control and loadshedding was not reduced, they would stage protest and lay siege to the Pesco office and the responsibility of any untoward incident will be on Pesco and the local administration.
Maulana Abdul Haleem, Maulana Qazi Gul Rehman, Qari Fayuzur Rehman, Qari Hafizur Rehman were prominent among those who spoke to the participants.
