Targeted attacks: Pesh Imam and zoo employee among four gunned down

Ansar Riaz, 40, was shot dead in Sohrab Goth in an alleged family feud.

Around four people, including a zoo employee and Imam, were shot dead while two police constables were injured in the city on Thursday.


The body of a 33-year-old man identified as Mohamamd Asif was found in Orange Street, Garden. The police said that he was an employee of the Karachi Zoological Gardens and used to look after the birdhouse.

When Asif did not return home from work on Wednesday, his family filed a missing person report. The police said that the motive behind the murder was unclear. They added that he lived in Usmanabad.


In an unrelated incident, Naeem Gondal, a grade-18 officer at the State Bank of Pakistan was shot dead in SITE. The police said that he was not affiliated with any political or religious party. An FIR will be registered after his funeral.

In Pathan Colony, SITE, the Imam of Muhammadi Masjid, Maulana Abdul Rehman was gunned down on his way to the mosque for Fajr. SHO Rao Rafique said that it was not a sectarian killing.

Ansar Riaz, 40, was shot dead in Sohrab Goth after an alleged family feud. Riaz leaves behind three children. DSP Iftikhar said that Ansar and her sister had been married to two brothers and their marriage had caused quite a stir in their neighbourhood.

Two police constables working for the Crime Investigation Department were injured when unidentified men opened fire at them in Johrabad. The constables were identified as Wahid Bux and Abid Rizvi. Both men were posted at Garden and were taken to Aga Khan University Hospital.
