Secret marriage: Man shoots sister dead
family told the investigation officer that they wanted Bibi to marry by their choice, which she was resisting.
ISLAMABAD:
A family argument triggered by a girl’s revelation of her secret marriage turned ugly when her elder brother pulled out a gun and shot her in the head.
Motia Bibi, 20, died on the spot, while Muhammad Sajjad, 25, fled from the scene. He was booked for murder by the Koral police on the complaint of his father.
“He has to be arrested and produced before the court, even if his father wants to pardon him,” said the investigation officer. He added that they were looking for the suspect.
The police official said the family is reluctant in providing complete details of the argument or why Sajjad was carrying a gun in the first place. The official added that it was early to say if the murder was pre-planned.
What the police does know is that Bibi, a resident of Kirpa village in the area of Koral Police Station, got into a hot argument with her brother over the issue of her marriage.
The family told the investigation officer that they wanted Bibi to marry by their choice, which she was resisting. On being pushed, she revealed that she was already married. She produced her marriage contract, which, the police officer said, infuriated Sajjad. He pulled out a gun and threatened to shoot her. In his rage, he pulled the trigger, the police said.
Police said they will question Bibi’s family after her burial to determine the details about the incident.
