Police performance: 416 gangs busted in six months

Police claim 1,265 wanted criminals were arrested.

Police claimed on Tuesday to have arrested 416 gangs, including 1,265 wanted men, in the last six months.


They said Rs262.6 million in cash and goods were recovered in various operations. Police claimed to have recovered 174 cars, 434 motorcycles, 27 public transport vehicles, 1,111 mobile phones, 80 tolas of gold ornaments, Rs199.6 million in cash and prize bonds worth Rs45,000.

Around 21,906 people were arrested in the period. Police claimed to have arrested 12,491 proclaimed offenders for murder, attempted murder and other serious crimes, and 9,415 court absconders.
Around 2,367 cases were solved. Police claimed to have solved 11 murder cases, four murder and robbery cases, two abduction for ransom cases, 80 dacoity cases, 1,099 robbery cases, 922 theft and burglary cases.

As many as 2,577 cases for the possession of illegal weapons were registered. Police claimed to have seized 20 Kalashnikovs, one sten gun, 92 rifles, 147 guns, 2,136 pistols, 92 revolvers, 11 carbines, two mousers, 30 daggers, 246 magazines and over 15,000 bullets.
As many as 4,243 cases against alleged drug peddlers were registered. Police claimed to have arrested 4,367 people accused for possession of drugs. Over 116 kg of heroin, over 593 kg of hashish, over 12 kg of opium, 245 narcotics injections, 121 tablets and 24,027 bottles of liquor were also seized. As many as 804 gambling cases were registered and 3,274 people arrested for gambling. Over Rs5.7million was seized from these people.
