Former DG health, who had earlier gone missing, appeared before court today to record his statement.

RAWALPINDI:
Taking a jab at the inquiry conducted by Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) in the ephedrine quota scandal and the recent emergence of two accused as immunity-granted witnesses, Ali Musa Gilani said on Monday that although he is “not even accused in the case” he would also like to “volunteer as an immunity-granted witness,” Express News reported.

Speaking to the media in Rawalpindi, Gilani blamed the media for misreporting events in the ephedrine scandal and said, “It is the media, because of which, suo motu notices are taken. Media should report objectively.”

‘Missing’ DG health appears before trial court

In a surprising development, former director-general health Dr Rasheed Jumma who had previously gone missing appeared before the trial court today to record his statement.

Dr Jumma’s statement was recorded by ANF’s investigation team.

In his statement, he revealed that he was pressurised by the former health minister Makhdoom Shahabuddin, former health secretary Khushnood Lashari and Gilani for the allotment of the ephedrine quota to Danas pharmaceutical company and Berlex Limited.

The former DG health said that Danas pharmaceutical company and Berlex Limited were allotted a quota of 2,500kg and 6,500kg of ephedrine, respectively.

He further revealed that the three men had also pressurised him for the sale of ephedrine within Pakistan which was meant for export purposes.

Dr Jumma prayed to the court that he should be provided security now that he had become an immunity-granted witness.
