One dead in Karachi Rangers patrol van blast

An explosive device, hidden in plants on the roadside, detonated. Injured shifted to Jinnah hospital.

KARACHI:
A blast near a Rangers patrol vehicle in Quaidabad area of Karachi late Sunday night has left one personnel dead and four critically injured, Express News reported.

The van was deployed on patrol duty along one of the walls of Gul Ahmed Textile residential apartments around Dawood Chowrangi, when an explosive device hidden amongst plants on the roadside detonated.

According to initial reports, the device was placed by unknown persons there before the van was deployed there.


The blast severely damaged the van, forming a crater around the blast site, approximately 2.5 feet deep and at least 9 feet wide, suggesting that a lot of explosive material was used.

Talking to Express News, Rangers officials said that four personnel have been injured while one had died. Rescue team officials said that the injured have been shifted to Jinnah hospital.

The wall of the residential complex and a watch tower have also been damaged.
