Heroin addict kills five-month old son

The accused took the extreme action to ‘teach wife a lesson’.

FAISALABAD:
A man killed his five-month old son and attempted to choke the child’s elder sibling after quarrelling with his wife on Sunday.

The tragic incident occurred in the Jadgewala area within the Jhang Bazaar Police Station limits. In a state of mental frenzy, Waheed Ahmad killed five-month-old Sameer by throwing him onto the floor and attempted to strangle five-year-old Adil.

Upon hearing the crying and screeching of the infant Sameer, a mob of people gathered around his residence to rescue the child but he had died before help came.

It was reported that Ahmad also caught hold of his other son Adil and tried to smother him but the people successfully rescued the boy. Adil was rushed to Allied Hospital where he was given first aid and discharged.

The man was handed over to the police.

Muhammad Sadique, Waheed’s father-in-law, told police that his 35-year-old daughter Shakila got married to Waheed Ahmad about 12 years ago and they had four children.

“Waheed was a mason but for the last three years he has been unemployed. Hence he became a chronic heroin addict,” he said.

“To support the family, my daughter started working as a housemaid while Waheed stayed at home,” Sadique added.

Sadique claimed that Waheed physically tortured Shakila and constantly asked her for money so he could purchase heroin. “If she turned down his demands, he used to severely torment her in the presence of children.”

On the other hand, Waheed told reporters that he was not happy with his wife working as a maid in different houses.

“People of our locality taunted me time and again on this issue and I also asked her a number of times to give up her job but she refused to listen to me,” he said.

“Since my wife didn’t pay any heed to my requests, I decided to teach her a lesson by killing our youngest son,” he added.

SHO Jhang Bazaar Farrukh Gulzar said that a case has been registered under section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of Muhammad Sadique, maternal grandfather of deceased Sameer.
