Trio: A winning combo of handicrafts and music

Handicrafts made by women in jails were put on display at the Rawalpindi Arts Council

Handicrafts made by women in jails were put on display at the Rawalpindi Arts Council on Sunday, said a press release.

The exhibition featured handmade jewellery, pottery decoration, dresses and glasswork. The main motivation to organise the exhibition was to present the handicrafts to the public so that these women may be able earn their livelihood instead of becoming a burden on anyone.

A drama, “Hawa ki Beti”, was also presented in the auditorium of RAC. The drama highlighted the challenges and difficulties faced by a woman in our society. Well-known actors Ejaz Baig, Iffat Ch and Saleem Babba acted in leading roles.

The drama was followed by a musical night. Renowned folk singers of the region, Nadeem Ali Khan and Akhtar Channan, performed on the occasion and received appreciation from the audience.

Nosheen Akbar, Program Officer at Strengthening Participatory Organization, said that it is the duty of everyone to make women in jails part of the society.

A large number of people from different walks of life attended the events.
