Preservation of history: 7 buildings on The Mall to be restored
Mengal directed the EDO to prepare a summary for the rehabilitation work

Seven buildings on The Mall will be restored to their original plan under a comprehensive programme being launched after the monsoon season. The announcement came on Friday after a meeting of the Committee for the Rehabilitation of Historic Buildings with Commissioner Jawwad Rafique Malik and DCO Noorul Amin Mengal in the chair. Municipal services executive district officer was also present. Malik said that the rehabilitation was a ‘challenging’ job. He said the programme was not only about beautification of The Mall, but also preservation of history. Mengal directed the EDO to prepare a summary for the rehabilitation work. Several proposals reviewed in the meeting for the rehabilitation of these buildings also included allocation of funds. The participants stressed the need for mobilising the media, civil society and the traders in this regard.
