Double murder: Couple shot for marrying of their own choice
Taj had been pressured to divorce his wife days before their murder۔
SUKKUR:
For Taj Mohammad and Faiza Jalbani, the decision to marry cost them their lives on Thursday as they were killed in a case of karo kari in district Shikarpur.
The couple was shot dead in the Nabi Shah Wagan police limits near Garhi Yasin on Thursday morning.
Around six months ago, Taj Mohammad alias Tajoo Jalbani and Faiza Jalbani, residents of the village Makan Jalbani, eloped and got married. Faiza’s father Zakir Hussain Jalbani and her relatives were against the relationship and asked community elders to intervene.
According to sources, the elders met in the village earlier this week and heard from both parties. They ordered Taj Mohammad to divorce Faiza because their relationship had caused problems between the two families. Taj gave in to the pressure and divorced his wife.
On Thursday morning, a number of men went to his house and called him outside. They were armed with guns and shot him dead before fleeing the site. They also raised Zakir Hussain Jalbani’s house and repeated their act – killing Faiza.
The bodies were handed over to the relatives after post-mortems at the Shikarpur hospital. SHO Nabi Shah Wagan police station Shahzado Dasti told The Express Tribune that there was no jirga or meeting of the elders but the double murder was the result of a family dispute. He said the investigation was underway. A case has not been registered as yet.
