Football: UEFA not to use goal-line technology
Uefa and the International Football Association Board will post two extra assistants in competitions.
Uefa and the International Football Association Board will post two extra assistants in competitions as Uefa President Michel Platini ruled out using goal-line technology in European competitions any time soon. According to a statement issued by Uefa, the assistant referees will provide ‘two extra pairs of eyes’ which will help the referees make the best decision. A report by UefaA following Euro 2012 found there were many more accurate decisions after extra assistants were appointed. With the assistant referees being able to concentrate on offsides, the officials next to goal can watch out for foul play. Uefa will continue using additional referees in the play-off matches of the upcoming Champions League, the Europa League as well as the Uefa Super Cup.
