Government committed to free and fair elections: Ashraf

Premier Ashraf says Chief Election Commissioner selected after complete consensus between government and opposition.

ISLAMABAD:
Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf on Tuesday said that a consensus on the name of Chief Election Commissioner amply manifested the government's commitment to elect the next Parliament according to people's choice by holding free, fair and transparent elections.

The Prime Minister was talking to Senator Suriya Amiruddin and MNA Natasha Daultana who had called on him separately, at Prime Minister House.

The Parliamentarians congratulated the Prime Minister on unanimous selection of Justice (retd ) Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim as Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan.


They termed it a positive omen for democratic dispensation as the selection was made by both the government and the opposition with complete consensus.

The Parliamentarians also apprised the Prime Minister about various development projects in their respective constituencies.

The Prime Minister asked the Parliamentarians to focus on the completion of on-going projects in their respective constituencies.
