Drowning in our own ineptitude
Pakistan's elite has mismanaged much of the aid that it received in the and this has not created a good impression.
INDIANA, US:
This is with reference to Ayesha Tammy Haq’s article “Drowning in our own ineptitude” (August 17). There has been lukewarm international support. I feel the world helps those countries that show respect for their own people. This country’s elite has mismanaged much of the aid that it received in the past and this has not created a good impression at all in the eyes of the rest of the world. Unless the population shows bravery in taking care of their own, the poor people of Pakistan will continue to be trampled.
I would think that initiative needs to be taken by private citizens to create some kind of fund to build bridges and help the flood victims in terms of providing them makeshift housing and food. Overseas Pakistanis are sending money but there is still fear — and justified I would say — that it won’t get to the people in need.
