DG FIA Fayyaz Leghari reappointed IG Sindh

Fayyaz Leghari was removed from this post in 2011 when the Supreme Court took suo motu notice of Sarfaraz Shah case.

KARACHI:
A notification for the appointment of Director General (DG) Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Fayyaz Leghari as Inspector General (IG) Sindh has been issued, Express News reported on Tuesday.

Earlier, while speaking to the media, Prime Minister’s Advisor on Interior Affairs Rehman Malik had announced this decision as well.

He was appointed DG FIA when the federal government transferred Javed Iqbal to the post of Secretary Ministry of Narcotics Control.

Fayyaz Leghari was IG Sindh, but was removed by the Supreme Court in 2011 after it took suo motu notice of the Sarfaraz Shah extrajudicial murder case.

The former Sindh Police IG had said that he was hopeful that the government will reinstate him to his former post, similar to how Brigadier Ejaz Chaudhry had reverted to his role as Director General Pakistan Rangers Sindh.

Correction: In an earlier version of the story, the word 'Director' was incorrectly written as 'Deputy'. The error has been rectified.
