Road accident: Six dead, more than 80 injured

Bus headed towards DI Khan hits another taking a turn on Jhang Road.

FAISALABAD: Six people were killed and more than 80 suffered injuries in a collision between two buses on Bhakkar-Jhang Road on Saturday night.

Four people, including a conductor and a security guard, died on the spot and two later passed away at a hospital. Three of the deceased were identified as Muhammad Ejaz, Abdul Hameed and Ali Hasnain.

Of the injured, 59 were taken to Jhang district headquarters (DHQ) hospital where they were given first aid. The rest with serious injuries were referred to the Allied Hospital in Faisalabad.

The injured included Muhammad Arif, Usama Ahmed, Muhammad Mukhtar, Farzana Bibi, Uzma Bibi, Abdul Ghafoor, Saima, Shahid, Ejaz, Abdur Rehman, Gul Khan, Ahmad Sher, Saeed Akhtar, Irfan Ali, Muhammad Aslam, Ali Ameen, Iftikhar and Saqib.

Muhammad Aslam, a witness who participated in the rescue operation, said the bodies were taken out by Rescue 1122 officials and passersby by cutting the body of the two buses.

One of the buses was headed towards Dera Ismael Khan. It collided with another bus taking a turn on the Jhang-Bhakkar Road.

The accident took place near Jhang bypass.
