Accept India's donation: Ansar Burney

Burney said Pakistan should respond positively to the gesture for the sake of flood victims and peace in the region.

Chairman Ansar Burney Trust International and former Federal Minister for human rights, Ansar Burney has requested President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani to accept the donation offered by the Indian Government for the flood affected areas on humanitarian grounds.

Burney said that this is the first time that Indian government has shown a very positive attitude towards Pakistan after the Mumbai attacks and the government of Pakistan should respond positively to the gesture for the sake of flood victims and also for the sake of peace in the region.

“By accepting the donation from India Pakistan could send a positive message to the other side of the border as well and will also help bring the two countries together.” Ansar Burney added.

‘400 Indian doctors to arrive in Sindh’

The Daily Times reports that Indian doctors will be arriving in Pakistan to extend a helping hand in flood relief efforts, particularly in Sindh.

The Indian civil society, who wants to see peace between both nuclear rivals, will make all arrangements to send these teams. The Indian doctors will work in flood-affected districts of Sindh province, but will avoid visiting Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa because of Taliban threat.

jai | 14 years ago | Reply Those who are clothed with food in their belly and a shelter over their heads unaffected by the floods talk about ghairat. i would like to see their ghairat when they lose everything. it's easy to talk about ghairat on the internet sitting in your air conditioned room. what gives you the right to gamble with the lives of the unfortunate just so you can feel good about yourselves as a Pakistani?

Zardari was off to his trip to united kingdom. was this crisis of any importance to him. now everyone is so excited about the aid. if two billion people are among the affecties then cant we just give up few of our luxuries for our brother and sisters in need. we are acting as beggeres as our govt. acts. get up and help your people yourself. give for the sake of Allah. give for your people in need. and dont look towards anybody. show some morality

Indians just missed a golden opportunity of improving ties with Pakistan (only if they wanted to). Sending doctors is a great gesture. In any case, Pakistan is in no position to be denying any of the aid. Saving lives should be the priority at the moment.

Ali | 14 years ago | Reply Mr Mateen, India was only a contributory factor in the breakup of Pakistan. Lets not forget why East Pakistan choose to separate from us. It was because we denied them their basic right to self determination.We choose to suppress our own brothers and sisters in the most brutal possible way. Our crimes against Bengalis our well documented. Maybe your not aware but this was the first time in history that a majority separated from a minority. Sadly we forget to quickly. At this stage we are in dire need of money and help and aid regardless of where it comes from can help saves lives. PS: you talk about Kashmir and what they would say if we accepted aid from India? The real question is what they would say when they see the way we treat our own citizens in times of crisis. We have a difficult time as it is managing the Pakistan that we have..what value would we be able to add to the life of an average kashmiri.

Pakistan was not broken by India but by our own senseless leaders. Stop being part of 'Ghairat lobby' lead by our establishment which is responsible of many of our great ills.

To Mr. Adeel Ahmed who says - 'taking aid from them is accepting their supremacy, and I am not in favor. What they offered is a joke anyways, we can and have raised that much locally anyways'. This is my comment. You people talk about supremacy when your countrymen are drown in water and when their children are at the highest risk of suffering from diseases. Anyway India is accepted as a growing power in the region by US and EU group of countries. Also India is the second quickest growing economy in the world next to china and expect to overtake it in the next few years. In terms of quantity of amount, be sure to be polite and diplomatic as you are at the receiving end and beware that when India accepted to offer 5 Million, China had offered just 1/3 rd of it and UAE offered 20,000$ to you guys. To Mr. ZULQARNAIN HAIDER who says - 'great decision by pakistani government to not taking the donation from India….we are proud Pakistani we dnt want any kind of help from our enemy and its these are the words of direct victims of flood of Khyber pakhtunkhwa. It is time to stop playing politics and cashing with this situation. I totally agree with Ansar Burney. Media must play its positive role. A day before Mr. Nawaz Sharif welcomed the gesture of Hindu Community in Sindh which cooked and distributed foods among the displaced people. They even prepared Aftari and Sehri so is there any fuss which still remains to be trumpeted. I hope good sense will prevail in these times of misery.

Mateen | 14 years ago | Reply By accepting Indian donation for the flood victims, the current position of Government of Pakistan will become dis-balanced in the region in respect with the issues discussed from time to time with the Government of India and more particularly of occupied Jammu and Kashmir. What Kashmirs of Jammu and Kashmir are going to say in case if Government of Pakistan accept Indian Government's donation who have been fighting for thier rights in Indian held Kashmir since 1947? In my opinion, Pakistan should not deal with India under any pressure on any issue despite the fact that we need donations from around the world. Many countries in the world has assured Government of Pakistan to help Pakistan in these testing hours. We should look towards such govenrments who have a positive approach towards Pakistan, rather than accepting donation from an enemy country. I have highest respects and regards for Mr. Ansar Burney but cannot comprise with an issue which relates to self-respect and integrity of the country. India is not the only country on earth and we have soar relations with India since 1947. I would like to mention to Mr. Ansar Burney that it was India who broke Pakistan into two parts. Mr. Ansar Burney should always remember that while suggesting to Government of Pakistan to accept Indian donation. Though politics is not Mr. Ansar Burney's business but we also have to take into consideration the sentiments of 17 crore people.

I can assure them that they would be having plenty of time in future to continue with their hate India campaign, but for the God's sake think about the millions and millions of men, women and children who are facing a certain death if relief is not provided to them in time. Indian government has offered 5 million dollars of aid, and promised further assistance if asked by the pak govt. India, being an immediate neighbor of Pakistan is the only country in the world who can provide instant help to the needy millions,who are awaiting for someone to come to their rescue.

M.Yahya | 14 years ago | Reply Donation offered whole heartedly for flood affected ppl or any other calmaty as goodwill gesture even by the arc enemy shall be taken positively.Helping others in time of need & trouble is a natural instinct of a humans foregoing their rivalry temporarily. Acceptance of such help/donation on humanitarian ground bear no harm,provided to be mindful of our security measures. Pakistan must also take into account,the propagation of negative impact/implication by self interested ppl or org or foriegn agencies before entrence of such help/donation into the country.
