FAISALABAD:

A violent mob vandalized a private hospital and assaulted its staff after the death of a newborn during treatment, police said on Wednesday.

According to a police report, dozens of individuals stormed the Hajira Kareem Private Hospital located in the main bazaar of Baber Chowk, Batala Colony, following the incident.

The attackers allegedly ransacked the facility, damaged furniture, and held hospital staff hostage, subjecting them to physical violence. The case was registered on the complaint of Dr Saira Ramzan, who was on duty at the time.

In her statement to Batala Colony Police, she said that the wife of the main suspect, Muhammad Danish Ilyas, had been admitted to the hospital for delivery.

After the birth, the newborn was shifted to the nursery ward, where the infant later died.

Following the child's death, Danish Ilyas, along with accomplices including Muhammad Ilyas and Abu Bakr Ilyas, allegedly incited unrest at the hospital. The suspects are accused of assaulting staff, vandalising property, including breaking decorative items and issuing death threats while also demanding extortion.
