LAHORE:

As Eidul Fitr approaches, the festive buzz across the country is at its peak, with markets crowded and preparations in full swing.

This year, however, a noticeable shift in beauty trends has emerged, as nail art and acrylic extensions gain popularity alongside traditional mehndi and bangles.

In Lahore, salons are witnessing a surge in demand, with appointments booked weeks in advance.

Women from diverse backgrounds are opting for professional manicure and pedicure services, driven by a growing emphasis on detailed grooming and social media-ready looks.

Beauty experts say the trend reflects changing fashion preferences.

Nail artist Huma, speaking to Express News, noted that while the classic French manicure remains popular for its timeless appeal, many clients are choosing more elaborate designs.

These include chrome and cat-eye finishes, 3D nail art featuring pearls and embellishments, and acrylic extensions that provide both durability and length.

Customers say the appeal lies in both style and practicality.

Sarah Khan, a homemaker, said she opted for maroon and gold chrome acrylic extensions due to their durability during busy Eid routines.

Meanwhile, corporate professional Zoya Ahmed preferred a French manicure for its versatility with both office wear and festive attire.

Younger clients are also embracing the trend. Fatima, a university student, said nail art has become an essential part of Eid preparation, influenced by global fashion trends and social media exposure.

Industry estimates suggest that nail art and extension services range between Rs5,000 and Rs15,000, depending on design complexity and materials used. While some styles last two to three weeks, high-end acrylic extensions can last several months with regular maintenance, including refills every three to four weeks.

Experts, however, advise moderation. Frequent exposure to chemicals such as acetone may weaken natural nails, though high-end salons emphasise hygiene, sterilised tools and nail care treatments to minimise risks.
