According to police, the former police official was identified as Mohammad Rafeeq. He was in his residence when unidentified gunmen opened fire, killing him on the spot. The assailants fled the scene successfully. Rafeeq’s body was rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital for an autopsy, following which it was handed over to his relatives.
Police say the motive behind the killing cannot be ascertained yet. A case against the assailants has been registered and investigation is under way.
