No casualties reported, so far. Rescue teams have been dispatched to the blast site.
PESHAWAR:
A blast in Peshawar city’s Dalgran Bazaar late Sunday night has damaged at least five shops, Express News reported.
According to initial reports, the bomb was placed in one of the tea shops in the area.
No casualties have been reported, so far, since the shops were closed on account of Sunday. However rescue teams have been dispatched to the blast site.
Talking to The Express Tribune, Station House Officer (SHO) Khan Raziq police station Sattar Khattak said that the blast occurred inside a shop where mehndi had been stored and was damaged in the blast.
“Five shops have been damaged including the mehndi shop and the nature of the explosion is not known,” adding that it could be a gas cylinder explosion.
Khattak further reiterated that there was no loss of life and the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) had been called to inspect the site.
The blast was so loud that it was heard across the city, causing panic among the locals.
Dalgran Bazaar mainly comprises of tea shops and is located around the famous Qissa Khawani Bazaar, one of Peshawar’s well-established market areas, a place named for its long association with publishing.
Earlier in the day, fourteen people were killed, while at least 30 were injured when a landmine exploded in Chaman near the Pak-Afghanistan border.
This is the second blast in the city, after a police constable was killed and three others were seriously wounded when a remote-controlled roadside bomb targeted a police vehicle on the Ring Road on Saturday within the jurisdiction of Pishtakhara Police Station.
SHO Yasin Khan had told The Express Tribune that their vehicle was on a routine patrol along the main Ring Road when it came under a remote-controlled bomb attack.
