MULTAN:

Two proclaimed offenders and an unidentified man suspected to be their accomplice were killed on Friday in, what the Vehari police claimed was, a shootout in Tibba Sultanpur area.

The two deceased were identified as Ghulam Mustafa and Ghulam murtaza. DPO Nasir Ali Rizvi said police had been pursuing the two for two months in a fertiliser theft case.

A child was injured in the shooting that took place in a farm in Adda Nurgarh village.

Rizvi said the police team, led by Inspector Sadiq Dogar, raided the village on a tip off about the deceased. He said the team chased the proclaimed offenders to the farm where both sides had a gun battle that continued for an hour. He added the POs and an accomplice were shot and killed in the encounter. None of the policemen was injured.

The DPO said the deceased were wanted for more than 20 cases in police stations across Multan division. These involved kidnappings, robberies and extortion.

Muhammad Rauf, 8, was bathing in a nearby canal when a bullet hit him. He was later taken to Vehari district headquarters (DHQ) hospital where doctors treating him described his condition as out of danger. They said he would remain under observation for three to four days.

The bodies of the proclaimed offenders were also sent to the DHQ hospital for an autopsy.
