KARACHI:

Mushtaq Shah’s replacement has not been decided as yet, but there are several senior police officials who are contenders. Sources told The Express Tribune that the issue still had to be finalised by the interior ministry, however former IGP Fayyaz Leghari is a strong candidate. Leghari is currently serving as a chief of the Federal Investigation Agency.

Leghari did not confirm or deny the news. “I have not received any such notification,” he told The Express Tribune. “This doesn’t have anything to do with our personal wishes. We are government employees and it decides where it wants to appoint us.” According to sources, Additional IG Karachi Akhtar Hussain Gorchani is also likely to be transferred to the Intelligence Bureau and either DIG Iqbal Mehmood and Additional IG CID Ghulam Shabbir Sheikh will be the new chief of the Karachi police.
