Building of new CDA headquarters delayed
Construction of the new building was supposed to start in 2008, but to date, nothing has materialised.
ISLAMABAD:
The construction of the much needed Capital Development Authority (CDA) headquarters in sector G-8/4 has been postponed once again, as the authority is facing a financial crunch.
According to details, the new CDA headquarters were to be housed in a new 12-storey building in sector G-8/4, covering over 14 canals. Construction of the new building was supposed to start in 2008, but to date, nothing has materialised.
When asked, CDA officials said they were in the process of selecting architects to design the building. However, nothing was done in the following months.
Ramzan Sajid, the official spokesman for CDA, told The Express Tribune that construction on the new building will start as soon as resources are available. He denied that the current office in G-7 is overcrowded and said there was no hurry to build the new headquarters.
According to sources, the need for the new headquarters was voiced in 2008 when the CDA office in G-7 was unable to accommodate all its employees. The shortage of space led to more than four people sharing one office. The overcrowding led to CDA renting offices in various sectors of the capital, making it difficult for city managers to monitor the work and performances of their employees.
Meanwhile, Chief Commi-ssioner of Islamabad suggested to Chairman CDA, Imtiaz Inayat Elahi that in order to save resources, the Islamabad Capital Territory and CDA should work in the same building.
“The idea was appreciated by the chairman, but it is a long term project and will take time. The thing which will delay the idea will be the selection of the place to establish one office,” Sajjid said.
