However, the resignation of Javed Zia Qazi, the deputy chairman of NAB, has not been accepted, according to sources. Qazi is said to have been assured by a federal minister from Sindh that he would be given an assignment in the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) shortly.

The NAB chief spelled out a comprehensive plan that his bureau has devised to control power outages by curbing electricity theft and line losses, sources told The Express Tribune.

The establishment of four new NAB offices – a regional office in Gilgit-Baltistan and three zonal offices in Multan, Abbottabad and Hyderabad – was also discussed in the meeting, according to sources.

Also on the agenda were issues like placing NAB under the cabinet division’s control, increasing perks and privileges of the bureau staff and increasing NAB’s budget, manpower and resources to enhance its performance.

The premier assured Admiral (retd) Bokhari that his government would address the bureau’s problems. He directed his staff to keep him posted on the bureau’s human resource and administration departments.
