KARACHI:
The Sindh government, on Wednesday, decided to hold weekly cabinet meetings at different district headquarters.

The decision will be implemented by holding the first meeting in Jacobabad on July 7.

Talking to The Express Tribune, the Chief Minister House spokesperson confirmed the news and added that the weekly meeting is meant to redress the peoples’ problems at the district level.

He said that all cabinet members (ministers) and essential secretaries have been directed to make sure they participate in the meetings.

The spokesperson further said the monthly schedule of the cabinet meetings will be issued soon.

When asked about extra burden on the national exchequer as the government has to bear the travelling and other expenses of all ministers and bureaucrats, he said that it will affect the current budget as funds have been allocated for it.

“Different agendas will be taken up at the cabinet meetings, but one item on the agenda will be regarding the development schemes of the particular district where the meeting is to be held,” he said.

Sources privy to the development said that the recent decision has been made following reports that the provincial government has not been able to utilise the development funds on proper time.

The decision has been made on the directives of the party leadership.

It may be mentioned here that earlier the government had decided to hold monthly cabinet meetings, but had failed to do so.
