BISE: Court forbids charging processing fee

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday barred all Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education in the Punjab from collecting processing fee from students of private educational institutions. Justice Shujaat Ali Khan also sought replies from the education secretary and chairmen of all BISEs. The directions were issued on a petition moved by Khaild Mahmood, a student, who contended that the Punjab government had waived off registration fee, admission fee and processing fee for students of public institutions but the dues are being collected from private students. The counsel described it as “discriminatory and in violation of fundamental rights”. The next hearing date will be fixed by the registrar’s office.
