“There has to be an alternative to mainstream music in Pakistan,” explained Babar Sheikh, member of Chand Tara Orchestra who performed at the concert.
“Most of these bands here are trying to break away from the mold of four minute song duration. We don’t want to follow the simple rule of ‘Verse-Chorus, Verse-Chorus’. It’s a little off-beat and obscure but something different for the music scene in Pakistan”.
The music was much more raw and experimental this time around.
Great performances from Lower Sindh Swing Orchestra, Mole, Basheer and the Piped Pipers and Chand Tara Orchestra really brought the place alive. Many set pieces featured unconventional forms of music, with genres ranging from post rock to ambient.
Chand Tara Orchestra performed a flawless 20+ minute instrumental piece to end the concert on a high note and with it, affirmed hope and recognition for the underground musicians of Pakistan.

Haan yaar, we need more bands like Jal and Roxen! I loved their songs, and they should make many more similar sounding ones so I can listen to them in my sticker laden car with three sub woofers. These guys just don't understand music.
hmm i like underground music and what you mean mainstream ? as in old pop? Pakistan is changing, its a fusion of so many musics now and i like it! If some people like this then be my guest. its retro
there is a very thin line between Music and noise ....i found here lots of noise...where was the music???
mummy daddy music bacha log
Where did good old Pakistani pop go? We had such great mainstream music in the 90s that everyone enjoyed. Now the mainstream is overtaken by Bollywood and most so-called "underground" stuff seems to be English songs catering to burger bachas.
